Energy Surveys

 

Tangram Technology are accredited consultants for the Carbon Trust free industrial survey programme. 

Surveys are available for plastics processing companies from Tangram Technology Ltd. - specialist consulting engineers for plastics processing.

What is the Carbon Trust?

The Carbon Trust provides companies and other organisations with advice on energy efficiency. The programme is backed by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, the Scottish Executive, Invest Northern Ireland and the National Assembly for Wales.

How can the Carbon Trust help?

The Carbon Trust provides a range of services to help you to identify, and then implement opportunities for energy efficiency to save money and reduce emissions of carbon dioxide, the principal greenhouse gas. The current services include:

Most of these services are free of charge, but not all are available to all types and sizes of organisation. This note provides specific details about our programme of site visits to assist organisations become more energy efficient. A separate application form is available for organisations wishing to obtain advice on design of new or refurbished buildings. 

Are you eligible for a site survey?

All organisations with an energy bill (cumulative spend on gas, electricity and other fuels) greater than £10k pa (and a commitment to act upon the advice received as far as is practicable), are eligible to receive a site visit to identify energy saving opportunities. The table below illustrates the type support available. The thresholds shown are flexible and individual applications will be considered on their merits. The Carbon Trust does not guarantee to provide any particular type of visit.

What types of site surveys are available?

For sites and organisations with an energy bill of greater than about £50k pa a wider range of site surveys are available from the Carbon Trust tailored to the specific circumstances and needs. Surveys that are free of charge include:

Each of the site survey products listed above is free of charge. In addition, the Carbon Trust also part funds Detailed Surveys. A Detailed Survey investigates the feasibility and potential savings from a specific energy saving opportunity, such as replacement of equipment with significant energy consumption. How do you apply?

Whichever of the Carbon Trust survey products you are interested in, contact Tangram Technology for further details. any information provided to Tangram or the Carbon Trust will be treated with the strictest of confidence.

If you have previously received a Carbon Trust (previously called Action Energy) survey you may still be eligible for further support.

What happens next?

On receiving the application you will usually be called by a Client Manager to discuss the application, requirements and agree the service to be provided. During this call the Carbon Trust will also explain what is expected of your organisation in return for being provided with the support.

Once we have agreed the service to be provided we will appoint one of our independently accredited consultants who will arrange to visit to visit your organisation's premises and conduct a review of your current energy usage to identify potential energy saving opportunities. The site survey typically takes between one and five days.

The outcome of the visit will be a realistic action plan, tailored to your organisations needs with recommendations to save energy and advice on how to achieve these. Measures range from no cost house-keeping improvements to suggestions to replace/upgrade equipment such as motors, lighting, heating and process systems.

You will be provided with an opportunity to comment upon draft report before the final version is delivered.

Follow-up support

After you have received the final report you will be contacted by your Client Manager to provide feedback on the service we have provided. Periodically, you may also be called to find out what progress you are making with implementing the actions. If appropriate, the Carbon Trust will commission follow-up support to help you to implement some of the energy saving opportunities in the action plan. Follow-up support may consist of telephone advice, training, provision of free publications, or where appropriate further visits or a Carbon Trust loan.
